M2 – Thread Forming Tap

R235.00

A thread forming tap, creates internal threads by displacing or molding the material in a pre-drilled hole, rather than cutting it away like a traditional cutting tap. This process results in stronger threads and eliminates the need for chip evacuation.
Key Characteristics
No Chips:
Thread forming taps do not cut material; instead, they push or roll the metal into the desired thread shape.
Fluteless Design:
Due to the lack of cutting edges and chip evacuation, they typically lack flutes.
Stronger Threads:
The cold-forming process can result in stronger and more durable threads compared to cutting taps.

Due to the forming process, a larger pre-drilled hole size is generally required than with cutting taps.
Benefits:
Stronger Threads: The cold-forming process can result in a stronger and more durable thread.
No Chip Evacuation: Eliminates the need for chip removal, simplifying the tapping process.
Higher Productivity: Can often be run at higher speeds compared to cutting taps.
Longer Tap Life: With no cutting edges, they are less prone to dulling or wearing down.
