Mango Batik Set of Scales – M M – J 10

Batik Mango Wood is a unique and visually captivating hardwood sourced from old mango trees (Mangifera indica) that are no longer fruit-bearing. What sets this wood apart is its extraordinary grain patterns—resembling traditional Indonesian batik fabric designs. These natural “batik” effects are not typical growth rings but are instead formed by the organic interaction of fungi, insects, and other environmental factors, which create intricate marbling, streaks, and lace-like figures within the wood.

Key Characteristics:

Striking Patterns:
The hallmark of Batik Mango Wood is its unpredictable and decorative grain. These patterns range from flowing lines and swirling waves to bold streaks and speckled contrasts—each piece truly one of a kind.
Color Variations:
The base color is typically warm golden to light brown, but the batik effect introduces rich dark hues—such as black, gray, deep brown, or even hints of green—resulting in dramatic, high-contrast visuals.

Workability & Finish:
Moderately dense and easy to work with, Batik Mango Wood accepts sanding, turning, and polishing well, allowing its artistic grain to take center stage with a smooth, refined finish.
Sustainable & Eco-Friendly:
This wood is harvested from mature mango trees at the end of their fruit-bearing life, making it a responsible and environmentally friendly choice.
Popular Uses:
Due to its beauty and uniqueness, Batik Mango Wood is often used for knife handles, artisanal bowls, decorative carvings, small furniture pieces, turned objects, and inlay work—anywhere a touch of natural art is desired.
